2023 In November, Clint Conrad gave a presentation entitled Imagining Esmark's Lost Scandinavian Ice at a special GeoOnsdag celebrating 200 years since Jens Esmark first proposed a great ice sheet that once covered Scandinavia. You can watch the presentation (see the second speaker starting at 12:46) and read an article about the event (in Norwegian). In June, Maaike Weerdesteijn successfully defended her PhD thesis - congratulations Dr. Weerdesteijn! 2022 In November, Florence Ramirez successfully defended her PhD thesis - congratulations Dr. Ramirez! The MAGPIE project was featured in the October edition of the quarterly EU-PolarNet 2 newsletter. To find the article quickly, search on "MAGPIE". Björn Heyn wrote a CEED Blog Post discussing his recent GRL article about the heat flow anomalies of plume tracks in continental lithosphere. Björn Heyn was interviewed for an extensive article in March in the research publication forskning.no about the dynamics and structure of Earth's LLSVPs. In February, Clint Conrad was quoted in an ESA story about Earth's interior structure, and how it is linked to recent volcanic eruptions. 2021 In September, Krister Karlsen successfully defended his PhD thesis - congratulations Dr. Karlsen! In September, Clint Conrad was elected as a member of Academia Europaea. See his profile here: here. In August, Yijun Wang started as a new PhD student as part of Ági Király's ANIMA project. In June, Clint Conrad's sea level exercise was developed into an www.earthlearningidea.com. Check out the lesson plan to demonstrate sea level in a plastic cup. In May, Clint Conrad joined the editorial board at Global and Planetary Change. Ágnes Király's ANIMA project (NFR funding) started up in May. Check out the project's official website. Clint Conrad gave a talk about sea level change to science educators at Geosciences Education for Teachers (GIFT) online via Zoom in April. You can see his talk here ( see the first video, starting at 54:00). This talk helped to inspire a video about sea level change at Science and Climate. Krister Karlsen's study about the Pacific hemisphere cooling much faster than the African hemisphere was featured in March in articles at New Scientist and at forskning.no (in Norwegian). From there, news of the story spread around the world: [Popular Mechanics] [Phys.org] [Daily Mail] [Yahoo] [IFL Science] In February, Krister Karlsen published a new article in Geophysical Research Letters about hemispheric variations in planetary cooling (on Earth). Publicity about Fabio Crameri's work on scientific colormaps continued in February with an article in Titan (in Norwegian) and in English here. 2020 Here is a CEED News article (and in Norwegian) about Ágnes Király, who won the Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award and a major NFR project (ANIMA) during one week in December. Ágnes Király won the 2020 Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award in December! Clint Cornad was interviewed in a December Science Article about plate tectonics and long-term climate change. Fabio Crameri's recent work on scientific colormaps was featured in October articles in phys.org and the CEED blog. Clint Cornad was interviewed in a September Universitas article about how the corona-crisis has hindered scientific research at UiO (in Norwegian). Fabio Crameri's paper about the Subduction Zone Initiation Database was featured in the CEED blog and phys.org. Björn Heyn's recent work on mantle plumes was featured in a June Nature Reviews article. Krister Karlsen's recent work on the history of seafloor depth was featured in an article in forskning.no (in Norwegian). Maaike Weerdesteijn was photographed in Antarctica in the Washington Post and in Chilean newspapers La Prensa Austral and El Magallanes (both in Spanish). Her trip to Antarctica was featured in the CEED blog. Here is a video about it. Clint Conrad won the Evgueni Burov Medal in May.
